Teen Life (Safer Me) Sessions in Wokingham

We are running our inclusive Teen Life sessions for young people aged 15 to 19 years, who are neurodiverse or have additional needs. No diagnosis required. (The sessions have been renamed ‘Safer Me’ this year).

Teens attending these sessions will need to be able to participate with some level of independence as the the ratio for this club is 1 adult to 8 teens. We are unable to provide one to one support due to our funding.

Our main aims are to encourage socialising and making friends in a relaxed environment, whilst having fun and learning to understand personal risks, increase confidence and skills & know how to seek support if needed.

The topics we will cover:

  1. Healthy Relationships (including spotting abuse and seeking help)
  2. Money Safety (including financial scams)
  3. Online Safety
  4. Sexual Safety (including consent)
  5. Alcohol, drugs, health & wellbeing
  6. Community Safety
  7. Travel Training
  8. Behaviour & Communication

Join our interactive sessions for hands-on tips and real-life skills! Tackle challenges, learn new things, and have fun too!

All sessions will be based at the Wokingham Baptist Church in Wokingham (even on our days out, we will START from there as our base).

Staff are experienced working with young people with additional needs and the environment is supportive and inclusive. (Some of our staff are neurodivergent themselves). Sessions come from a positive and accepting place of our neurodiverse backgrounds, where we want to learn together without masking.

Cost

There will be a total contribution of £6.25 per teen towards the cost of ALL the sessions. If any family will struggle to pay that contribution, email us in confidence: Rachael@asdfamilyhelp.org

Teens will need to bring additional money towards bus and train fare, their food or drinks during our day’s out and to cover a group activity which will be chosen by them. (We provide snacks and drinks at all after school sessions). Day’s out will be around Wokingham, Reading & Bracknell and will form part of our travel training using local buses or trains.

Parking

There is limited parking at this venue.

Parking is not permitted in the church car park, but it is available on the road in designated areas restricted to a maximum of 2 hours.

On road parking is immediately outside of the venue or a short walk down the road. Do read the parking restriction signs carefully as some areas are for residents only and traffic wardens patrol the area. Alternative parking can be found a short walk away in town.

Some teens prefer to walk themselves to and from Teen Club, please just let staff know.

This project is possible due to funding from Wokingham Borough Council and Thames Valley Police & Crime Commissioner.
